Oh, how Calypso's beauty brightens my (Odysseus) rugged soul. Oh, how sweet her voice is. She begs me to stay with her forever on this island to be immortal. I'm only a man and she's a nymph, a banished daughter of a titan. The people of Ithaca and my wife Penelope await me. How a cursed choice I have to make.
I'm indebted to Calypso for saving my life from my shipwreck. Those sea monsters took my men and ship away on my return from Troy. The gods have given me mercy and maybe Calypso is a gift from them. I've been on long travels and the battles have caused me great distress. I need a break, I want to drink wine with a companion all evening, dance, and sing songs till our throats shut. Penelope's carefree days have long gone, meanwhile, Calypso's eternal youth soothes my senses. Calypso isn't letting me leave so might as well live with her till the gods envy our infinite pleasure.
